The University of Vienna, Faculty of Islamic Education, in cooperation with the University of Bucharest, is organizing the international conference “Religious Education between Radicalism and Tolerance” in Bucharest from the 21st to the 23rd of October 2016.

We are soliciting abstracts for conference papers, which will ultimately be published as chapters in an edited volume.

The papers should connect the topic ‘religious education’ with at least two of the following aspects:

  • Approaches to defining tolerance and radicalism
  • Theological and philosophical theories of education and tolerance
  • Human rights education and religion/theology
  • Ethics instruction (in a secular society)
  • Analyses from a sociology-of-religion perspective
  • Citizenship education

Please send proposed titles and abstracts of roughly 300 words, including a short bibliography of at least four sources, by July 31, 2016 to: kohki.totsuka@univie.ac.at.

There is no participation fee. The participants are responsible for their travel and accommodation expenses.

The languages of the conference are English and Romanian.

The emphasis of the conference is on Islam, but other religious perspectives are welcome!

You will receive notification of the abstract review results by August 7, 2016.
